Parenting Quotes

Here are some of my favorite parenting quotes that I think every parents are aware but many cannot ironically practice:

There comes a time when a woman needs to stop thinking about her looks and focus her energies on raising her children.  This time comes at the moment of conception.  A child needs a role model, not a supermodel.
~Astrid Alauda, on the "hot mom" trend

It's not only children who grow.  Parents do too.  As much as we watch to see what our children do with their lives, they are watching us to see what we do with ours.  I can't tell my children to reach for the sun.  All I can do is reach for it, myself.
 ~Joyce Maynard

Don't worry that children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you.

~Robert Fulghum

If you want children to keep their feet on the ground, put some responsibility on their shoulders.
~Abigail Van Buren

Children have more need of models than of critics.
~Carolyn Coats, Things Your Dad Always Told You But You Didn't Want to Hear

Tiny Hands that are Licensed to Kill

The Home Affairs Select Committee calls for minimum age limits to be imposed on shotgun certificates and wants tighter controls over gun owners with criminal records.
Their report details how 26 children aged just ten are holders of shotgun licences - and the current law means they can be given to children even younger.
The report found that as of September 7, 2010, a total of 4,899 children under the age of 18 in England and Wales had been issued with either a shotgun certificate or a firearms certificate – mostly used for rifles.
These figures do not include low-powered air rifles or air pistols, which are subject to separate restrictions.

Whew! Can't believe this but as I look unto the report and the statistics, indeed children even at the age of ten can have a real gun. Yes! the real one not the toy gun. This is shocking as well as frustrating for at this early age, these kids are not all capable of deciding what they will shoot or who they will shoot(with proper discernment) for this kids will often act on impulse but seldom with reason.

I remember my brothers who often play with their toy guns, robots and cars when they are still kids. They always got angry and fought with each other while they are playing. Afterwards I would see them throwing their toys with each other. What if the guns that they are playing are real guns? Would they kill each other if burst of anger happens to penetrate their emotions while playing? I guess if this happened I would be looking at their tombs nowadays or still in the hospital facing people in white lab coats who are treating them. This is easy to imagine but hard to accept that in this very permissive society violence is within the reach of our children hands.Hands that are innocent and yet hands that are licensed to kill.

The Sound of Silence

What is a home without children?  Quiet.
Henny Youngman

I have a baby sister who never gets quiet when she is awake. Even when she has an illness and sometimes when she is sleeping  she is sleep talking. Funny, that I'm amused at her and irritated at the same time.

My father often call her as the loudspeaker of the family. And actually in our family  I and my sister are the girls and I have  three  siblings which are boys. Oftentimes we laugh on how talkative our youngest sister is, and how silent I am in comparison. Whew!

But come to think of it, maybe if my baby sister was not born, our house will be as quiet as a museum. Since I, the eldest is already old and my brothers too, my mom and my dad will be left in our house spending time in their businesses and jobs and our house will be like an empty church. Quiet. Empty. Lonely.

Thank God, He gave unto us our baby sister. And you know what? This blog is dedicated to her and to my brothers whom I consider as children though the two are already in high school and one in college. I love them much and still now we are so close and having a good time everytime we sit in our living room or in the kitchen and in any part of the house. I love them and I love children. That's why this blog will focus on children and health, Cause you see, I and my siblings are not born that healthy but thanks God and to our parents that when we grow old, we seldom got sick and we can say that we are already healthy. Not just physically,eh, but mentally, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
